Cape Cod may not be in the deep hurricane belt, but we still get our fair share of windy coastal storms in July. After any heavy rain or wind, take a moment to do a visual inspection of your roof (from the ground or with binoculars). Look for:

• Debris buildup (branches, leaves, etc.)
• Signs of leaks inside your attic or ceilings

2. Check for Heat Damage

Yes, your roof can suffer from too much sun. The UV rays in July are at their strongest, and they can weaken roofing materials over time, especially if your roof is already aging. Asphalt shingles may start to curl, crack, or lose granules.

3. Clean Your Gutters and Vents

Gutters clogged with pollen, leaves, and debris from spring can cause water to back up during summer storms. That backup can lead to roof leaks and water damage around your home’s foundation.

Also check attic vents and soffits for signs of blockage or damage. Good ventilation is key during humid Cape Cod summers—it helps prevent mold and reduces the strain on your cooling system.

4. Schedule a Mid-Year Roof Check

Summer is the ideal time to schedule a roof inspection or take care of minor repairs. Don’t wait until fall or winter, when weather becomes more unpredictable and damaging leaks are harder to fix quickly.
